Analog IC market growth will gradually slow down

In recent years, due to the rapid expansion of the mobile terminal market such as smart phones and tablets, the demand for analog, MEMS and sensor ICs has increased dramatically, bringing fruitful results to the global analog IC market. However, with the gradual maturity of the mobile market and slowing growth, market research firm Semico Research expects that the rapid growth of the analog IC market will soon change.
Semico Research said that with the continued double-digit growth in the field of mobile products, analog ICs have experienced an even stronger growth than the past few years. Analog ICs are the key to almost all electronic devices. Several analog ICs are used in every electronic product, making this market grow faster than the overall semiconductor market. Semico Research estimates that the global electronics market will consume more than 1,210 sets of analog IC components in 2015.
Although these components are also needed in the current popular Internet of Things (IoT) applications, Semico Research believes that the growth of the analog IC market will gradually slow down in the next five years. "The Internet of Things has considerable growth potential for analogs and sensors, but it will take several years for a large number of markets to materialize," said Jim Feldhan, president of Semico Research. "So we are seeing a change in the analog market. It is expected that the growth of analog sales will slow in the next five years; in terms of sales, its average annual compound growth rate (CAGR) will slow to 4.4%, and Shipment CAGR is about 5.3%.
According to Semico's estimates, the analog IC market shipped approximately 1,210 units in 2015, with an output value of $ 45.6 billion; it is expected that this number will reach $ 56.5 billion in 2020, with 157 billion units shipped.
Semico Research's latest analog market research report predicts 35 analog products, ranging from general analog components and power management ICs to automotive and medical chips. Many of these analog ICs are still manufactured using more mature process technologies and account for 41.3% of the overall analog revenue.
